Numbers alone are not enough.
We know that it is not enough merely to increase the number of visitors. As the numbers of visitors go up we make sure that sales increase too.
Any promotion or event has to link to or promote the offers being made by the retailers in the centre:
A fashion show by the local art college linked with the fashion retailers who we encouraged to provide a promotional offer.
A DJ competition, sponsored by local radio, linked with retailer promotions.
A Valentine’s Day card event linked with retailers promoting lingerie, lip care products and teeth whiteners.
We are not persuaded by the possibility of easy income from promotions that are inappropriate to the retailers and their customers. So if a highly respectable car dealer wants to display his MPVs in the forecourt – and the focus for the centre is the ‘young urban achiever’ – the answer is ‘no’.
